APIC - Knowledge Direct Learning Management System

Project Description

The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology’s (APIC’s) mission is to improve health and patient safety by reducing risks of infection and other adverse outcomes. The Association’s more than 13,000 members have primary responsibility for infection prevention, control and hospital epidemiology in healthcare settings around the globe. APIC’s members include nurses, epidemiologists, physicians, quality and patient safety professionals, healthcare executives, microbiologists, clinical pathologists, laboratory technologists, and public health practitioners. APIC advances its mission through education, research, consultation, public policy, practice guidance and credentialing.

APIC was seeking an eLearning portal that could deliver courses, track participation, assess, report, award automatic certificates, and monitor continuing medical education (CME) credits. Additionally, the eLearning portal required integration with APIC’s association management system (AMS), iMIS, and with Healthstream courses and other providers. In anticipation of growing globally and an enormous demand for its online offerings, APIC was looking for a system that was both flexible and scalable.

APIC wanted a partner who could assist in marketing and promoting content to existing students and integrate social networking into their course offerings. They also required an e-Learning partner experienced in instructional design and course production to produce custom online continuing medical education (CME) courses.

Digitec met APIC’s needs through its ability to develop custom e-Learning course content and implement the eLearning portal using Digitec’s Knowledge Direct® Medical Learning Management System (LMS). Digitec delivered a high quality, cost effective solution that APIC is utilizing to serve its members. Integrated within the Learning Management System (LMS) is a Content Management System (CMS) that enables APIC to create their own courses using Microsoft  PowerPoint. Once created the courses are added to their eCommerce catalog. The module content can be reused through the content repository. Marketing features integrated into the system include automated “recommended courses” announcements and the ability to create template triggered broadcast emails. Together, these functions make it easy for APIC to advertise their course offerings to members and non-members alike.

By utilizing Digitec’s Knowledge Direct® Med, APIC is able to:

• Deliver courses, track participation, test, report, award automatic certificates, and monitor continuing medical education (CME) credits.

• Extend its marketing initiatives the “recommended courses” and automated broadcast email functions.

• Promote continuing education to its more than 13,000 members.

• Invoice, track and deliver courses sold through their eCommerce shopping cart.

• Distribute post-course surveys for content feedback from students at the topic and course level.
