The American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) is a professional medical association that works to promote excellence in osteopathic family medicine through quality education, visionary leadership and responsible advocacy for its more than 20,000 members. For years ACOFP delivered educational sessions in conjunction with their scientific conventions and workshops, but as the importance of continuing medical education (CME) has grown, so has the association’s need to offer its members more on-demand activities. To remain competitive and add value to their membership, ACOFP turned its eye toward eLearning.
ACOFP developed a strategic plan which included the introduction of webinar series, CME and professional development courses, and online assessments. ACOFP then set out to find a learning management system (LMS) that would allow them to carry through on their plan. ACOFP sought an all-in-one system that could be integrated with their existing association management system (AMS), iMIS, and the new web conferencing system they would also adopt. Importance was placed on the potential provider’s experience and knowledge working with iMIS and the unique needs of medical specialty societies.
Additional requirements included an integrated course catalog with advanced marketing and segmenting capabilities as well as the ability to link directly to product descriptions from iMIS. The association’s LMS of choice would also have the ability to issue CME credits both at the course and module level and automatically pass completion records back to the AMS.
ACOFP ultimately selected the Knowledge Direct® Med learning management system (LMS) powered by Digitec for its ease-of-use, extensive feature list and iMIS integration. The powerful system meets all of the association’s requirements and acts as a single, unified site. For the first time in the association’s history, members can access live and recorded webinars, self-paced courses and assessments for CME credit. Integration with the iMIS AMS also enables single sign-on, automatic learner registration and automatically updates the iMIS database when students complete a course.
ACOFP leveraged existing instructor-led course materials to create interactive eLearning courseware utilizing a standard rapid content authoring tool. The popular educational program can now be accessed anytime and is perfect for busy physicians who would not be able to participate otherwise.
ACOFP also benefits from Digitec’s strategic alliance and integration with the ReadyTalk web conferencing system. Purchasing and accessing live and on-demand webinars is a breeze and can be completed directly from the LMS. The integration also ensures that members receive credit for attending and gain instant access to print certificates which they use to apply for certification from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).
By utilizing Digitec’s Knowledge Direct® Med, ACOFP is able to:
• Provide its members with a single, unified repository for CME and professional development courses.
• Automatically issue dynamic certificates upon course completion.
• Easily create new courses using the built-in content authoring tool.
• Extend its marketing initiatives through the “recommended courses” and automated broadcast email functions.
• Promote online course offerings to its more than 20,000 members.Add to Favorites
